You can make a difference in the life of a child — one hour at a time!
Opportunities:
After-school program: Work with individual Dreamers or small groups on reading and other learning activities. Commitment: Once a week between 3:00 and 4:30 P. M.
One-on-One mentoring: Be a special friend to a Dreamer!! As a Mentor you play an important role in helping to shape the successful future of our Dreamers. You will spend time 1:1 to provide consistent adult support. You can hang out & have fun — but with a purpose. Personal and criminal background records checks are required.
Your Commitment: We ask that you spend time with your Dreamer three times during each month. (one phone call check-in and two in-person visits for at least one hour each). We prefer a one year commitment, often our mentors stay for the duration of the projects. When possible, mentors provide transportation for their Dreamers to special activities.

Troy, a mentor and his Dreamer.
Here’s what one of our Mentors has to say about his experience: “I got involved with “I Have A Dream” because I feel that mentoring is a powerful tool that helps young people fulfill their potential. I enjoy spending time with my Dreamer because it provides an opportunity for him to consider, learn from and expand his personal expectation of success. I have experienced greater benefits than my Dreamer by becoming a Mentor.”
Special activities: If you’d like to be involved, but are unsure if spending time with the Dreamers is for you — you can help our Project Coordinators and Sponsors with special group activities (picnics, graduation ceremonies, field trips, etc).
